A new photo from the set of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reveals America Chavez in the middle of filming a running scene.
A new photo from the set of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reveals America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) in the midst of filming a running scene. Doctor Strange 2 is an upcoming MCU movie, set to be released on May 6 and is the sequel to the 2016 movie, Doctor Strange. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams will resume their roles as Doctor Strange, Baron Mordo, and Chiristine Palmer, respectively.
The highly anticipated sequel film will introduce a new character — America Chavez. She appears in the Marvel Comics as a superheroine who can fly and open portals to other universes. Chavez is primarily known for being in the Young Avengers comics. Chavez’s unique superhero skills will likely add layers and depth to viewers’ understanding of the MCU’s multiverse, which will be properly introduced and established in the upcoming film. Additionally, Chavez’s abilities will serve as a comparison point between her character and Doctor Strange, since Doctor Strange seeks to guard the barriers between universes.
In terms of the specific role Chavez will play in the story, not many details have been released. But now, Marvel (via Comicbook) has released a new photo showing Chavez in action. In the photo, Chavez wears her signature stars-and-stripes jacket while on a city street, running toward (or away from) something. Check out the full image below:
Based on the image alone, it’s difficult to predict much about the contents of the scene being filmed, but eagle-eyed fans have noticed details that may point to clues about how the movie will portray America Chavez. For example, several commenters remarked that Chavez is pictured running instead of flying. In the comics, Chavez has the ability to fly. The photo doesn’t necessarily mean that she won’t be able to fly in the movie, but there’s a chance the movie will shift her abilities to tell a different kind of story.
The inclusion of America Chavez in the movie is the next step in Marvel’s trend of including Young Avengers in MCU titles. In general, there’s been a great deal of speculation regarding the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie, especially as Marvel keeps introducing more and more new characters and increasingly complex storylines. In addition to introducing Chavez, the movie will also include Wanda Maximoff (also known as the Scarlet Witch), who was featured in the film’s trailer. While some are excited about having new characters introduced to Doctor Strange, others are hesitant and worry that the story will become too muddled. On May 6, when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released, audiences can finally see how Marvel handles Chavez’s introduction, and will learn once and for all why she was running.
