Loki and Gamora Make Thor’s Biggest Thanos Mistake Worse

Loki and Gamora both died in Avengers: Infinity War at the hands of Thanos, but they also made Thor’s biggest MCU crime thus far so much worse.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) made Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) big Thanos (Josh Brolin) mistake in Avengers: Infinity War much worse. The God of Thunder was motivated to exact revenge against the Mad Titan for what he did to his people at the start of the film. Unfortunately, his arrogance not only led to his failure to execute his plans, but it also resulted in Thanos’ catastrophic snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel Studios presented the Mad Titan as a misguided villain who had good intentions but evil plans. Convinced that for the universe to be sustainable, it needed to be balanced, he sought the six Infinity Stones to execute the snap. While he killed half of life in the galaxy, he didn’t go out of his way to murder individuals in Avengers: Infinity War. Although he did execute several characters who stood in his way. That included both Loki, who was choked to death at the beginning of the film, and Gamora, who was sacrificed in Vormir for the Soul Stone.

Despite dying at the hands of Thanos, Loki and Gamora fought valiantly against the villain, and they did something that Thor didn’t — they went for the Mad Titan’s head. What makes this more interesting is that both were using small daggers when they attempted to kill the Mad Titan. Loki wielded his signature dagger when he executed his haphazard attack on his former ally at the start of Avengers: Infinity War. Meanwhile, Gamora used the balance that his adopted father gave her when she was abducted from her home planet when they reunited in Knowhere. Thor, on the other hand, had the all-powerful Stormbreaker, forged by Eitri (Peter Dinklage). Had he gone for the head like Loki and Gamora, Thanos would’ve been killed right away, not having any time to snap his fingers.

Thanos chokes Loki to death in Infinity War.

This isn’t really the only mistake Thor made in Avengers: Infinity War. Even before he acquired Stormbreak, he already made a bad decision. As revealed in Eternals, Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) noted that, back then, the God of Thunder usually followed him around, but after he became an Avenger, he wouldn’t even take his fellow cosmic hero’s calls. This established that Thor did know about the Eternals‘ existence on Earth long before they were revealed in Chloé Zhao’s MCU film, but he never talked about it to his fellow Avengers whenever they were faced against a big villain. That was fine in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Thor should’ve reached out to the Eternals when the threat of Thanos became imminent. That way, they could’ve boosted their manpower. Granted, this doesn’t make it certain that the Eternals would’ve meddle, but at least the God of Thunder could have tried.

Much has been said about the Avengers’ loss to the Mad Titan in Avengers: Infinity War. Admittedly, Thor’s massive mistake, in the end, has always been singled out as the moment that spelled the heroes’ defeat. It’s also worth noting that there were other factors that led to the snap. Nonetheless, the God of Thunder had the most blatant mistake, as he was so close to killing the villain and preventing the Decimation.
