Oscar Expert Thinks Will Smith & Chris Rock Could Present Award In 2023

Following the now-infamous slap, a Hollywood insider predicts that Will Smith and Chris Rock could present an award together at next year’s Oscars.

Hollywood insider Matthew Belloni thinks Will Smith and Chris Rock could present an award together at next year’s Oscars. The 94th Academy Awards were presented Sunday night on ABC, paying tribute to the past year’s best motion pictures. Apple TV+’s CODA took home the highest honor, Best Picture, along with Adapted Screenplay for Sian Heder and Actor in a Supporting Role for Troy Kotsur, who delivered one of the night’s most emotional speeches. Dune took home the most trophies of any film, winning a total 6 awards in various technical categories.

Unfortunately, the night was overshadowed by a shocking moment in which Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock in response to a joke directed at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The comedian was presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature when he made a G.I. Jane joke poking fun at Pinkett Smith’s bald head, which is due to an autoimmune disorder known as alopecia. After the physical altercation, Smith returned to his seat and yelled to Rock on stage, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!” During his subsequent acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Leading Role, he expressed regret about the situation, and later issued a formal apology to Rock.

As everyone is still reeling from the shocking events that unfolded during the ceremony, Hollywood insider Belloni is here with a surprising prediction. In the aftermath of the Oscars, Belloni took to his podcast The Town to react to the fallout of the slap heard ’round the world. During the episode, he makes the bold prediction that Smith and Rock will either present an award or host next year’s Oscars ceremony together. Read his full quote below:

A year is a long time and we are in the middle right now of a huge scandal. My prediction is that next year’s Oscars – Will Smith and Chris Rock either present together or host together.

Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock At Oscars 2022

At the current time, it may seem like Belloni’s prediction is unlikely to come into fruition, as the Academy is currently considering suspending Smith for his actions, and it’s certainly possible he is not invited back to the ceremony, at least for one year. However, tensions between the two have calmed down a bit since that night. The following day, as Smith issued his formal apology to Rock, Pinkett Smith followed up by calling for healing as well.

Rock, on the other hand, has remained tight-lipped about the situation, even as many feel he owes an apology to Pinkett Smith for the off-color joke. Rock did decline to file a police report, signaling he is not interested in seeking any type of retribution against Smith and is ready to move on. Despite Rock’s repeated jokes directed towards Smith’s wife, the two have enjoyed a friendly relationship over the years and have worked on various project together. Belloni’s prediction is far out, though Smith and Rock presenting an Award together at next year’s Oscars would be the perfect symbol of reconciliation between the two and an opportunity to joke about the slap after a year’s reflection.
