One area they’ve been building a substantial following in is anime. Netflix is home to many series from Japan – a mix of classics and hot new favorites. Not only is Netflix the exclusive international distributor for a lot of anime, but they’ve also gotten into the market of producing original anime for worldwide audiences. It’s been a boon for anime fans and curious newbies alike, and there’s more coming on the horizon.
Below is a list of every anime series available to watch on Netflix. The offerings can sometimes change, but Netflix always has a great selection to choose from. Unless specified, these anime are available to watch internationally.
7SEEDS is set in a post-apocalyptic future. Shy Natsu and a group of others band together to protect humanity from dying out. The series debuted in 2019 and is emotional and full of adventure. Currently, Netflix has 7SEEDS‘s 2 seasons, with 24 episodes to binge.
A Lull In The Sea
Set in a world in which some humans can live underwater and some cannot, A Lull In The Sea follows friends Manaka, Hikari, Chisaki, and Kaname as they attend school on the surface for the first time. The series tackles themes of discrimination. The one and only season of A Lull In The Sea is streaming on Netflix with 26 episodes.
Set in the near future of 2035, this Netflix exclusive, based on the manga of the same name, takes place after an accident known as “The Burst” leads to an epidemic of artificial life-forms across the Kurobe Gorge. Following a government-mandated quarantine, a young girl called Aiko becomes embroiled in the quest to stop the spread of “matter” before it’s too late. There are currently 12 episodes of the Netflix original anime available to stream.
Aggretsuko is an anime musical comedy. Lighthearted and fun to watch, it follows Retsuko the Red Panda as she starts going to karaoke after work to ease the tension and stress from her office job. Aggretsuko has 30 episodes currently available to watch on Netflix.
After being hit by a truck in Ajin: Demi-Human, student Kei Nagai discovers he’s an immortal Ajin and finds himself the enemy of the state who wishes to conduct experiments on him. Ajins – powerful creatures who can create abnormal amounts of IBM (Invisible Black Matter) – are considered dangerous and those who have escaped the government’s clutches are hell-bent on revenge. Kei must pick a side in this tense, brutal anime. There are currently 26 episodes of the anime available on Netflix.
Angel Beats! follows a group of teenagers who aren’t exactly keen on moving to the after-after life. The series is fairly sad, focusing on Otonashi, who lost his memories after death. The show mainly explores what high school is like in a seemingly never-ending limbo and a fight against God. Anime fans can watch all 13 episodes of Angel Beats! on Netflix.
Attack on Titan
One of the most-watched anime series of all time, Attack on Titan is set in a world where giant humanoid monsters called Titans threaten the future of humanity. The series is airing its fourth and final season now in 2022. Netflix only has Attack on Titan season 1, however, which is 25 episodes long.
B: The Beginning
Kazuto Nakazawa (the director behind the anime sequence in Kill Bill: Vol. 1) is the director of this Netflix exclusive series. B: The Beginning blends crime, action, fantasy, and mystery to tell the story of a mysterious criminal organization, an infamous serial killer, the otherworldly forces in control of both, and the investigators brought on board to solve this myriad of puzzles. There are currently 12 episodes available to stream.
A high-paced action series, Baki follows its eponymous protagonist as he hones his skills in the deadly art of no-rules hand-to-hand combat. Netflix’s original Baki series has three parts of 13 episodes each: two seasons and “The Great Raitai Tournament Saga.”
Another Netflix original anime, Beastars is set in a world of anthropomorphic animals (similar to Disney’s Zootopia) and deals with themes of prejudice and self-discovery. Legoshi, a gentle wolf, must grapple with new instincts after the murder of a classmate. Both seasons of Beastars are streaming on Netflix, with 12 episodes each.
In Blue Exorcist, Rin and Yukio Okumura, two seemingly ordinary teenagers, discover that they’re actually the sons of Satan, with the former finding out he is the prime inheritor of his father’s demonic powers. The pair enroll at True Cross Academy and train to become exorcists so that they can defeat their evil father. There are currently 39 episodes available on Netflix.
A deeper, more contemplative anime with a slower pace, Blue Period follows high school student Yatora Yaguchi as he explores himself through art. The Netflix original currently has one season, which is 12 episodes in length.
Legendary comic book writer Warren Ellis (the man behind Transmetropolitan) spearheaded the long-awaited adaptation of the video game franchise Castlevania. This origin story of sorts features a stellar voice cast (including Richard Armitage from The Hobbit trilogy and James Callis from Battlestar Galactica) and takes most of its artistic cues from Ayami Kojima’s artwork from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. All four seasons are available on Netflix.
Children of the Whales
The inhabitants of the Mud Whale vessel in Children of the Whales are divided into two groups: The Marked, telepaths whose powers greatly shorten their lifespans; and The Unmarked, who lack such abilities but enjoy longer lives as a result. A young boy named Chakuro befriends a mysterious new arrival named Lykos, and the pair’s adventures may change the lives of everyone on the Mud Whale. There are currently 12 episodes of the anime available on Netflix.
Set in an alternate Japan where the country was conquered by The Holy Empire of Britannia, Code Geass remains one of the most popular series in modern anime. The critically acclaimed series follows the former prince Lelouch vi Britannia who obtains a strange power known only as Geass, which he decides to use to destroy the Holy Britannian Empire. There are currently 50 episodes available.
Although the anime series is from 1998, Cowboy Bebop was in the spotlight again in 2021 thanks to Netflix’s original live-action adaptation starring John Cho. Naturally, Netflix offers the original Cowboy Bebop anime as well, which follows the adventures of bounty hunters Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine throughout the solar system. The series only had one 26 episode season back in the day, and the whole thing is on Netflix.
Cyborg 009: Call of Justice
Nine people from around the world were kidnapped by the mysterious Black Ghost organization and forced to undergo experiments that turned them into superhuman cyborgs with immense powers. Now, they must band together to stop Black Ghost from setting off a new world war. Cyborg 009 started life as a manga in the 60s and has been revived various times on film, TV, and radio. There are currently 12 episodes available on Netflix.
Netflix released an American live-action remake of this beloved anime series in 2017, but the original is vastly superior. The melodramatic thriller centers on bored genius schoolboy Light Yagami, who finds a mystical notebook that allows him to kill people by simply writing down their names. Death Note also serves as an accessible introduction to anime for those new to the medium. There are 37 episodes available to watch.
Along with the nearly-ended Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer is one of the most universally popular anime series of the moment. Set in Taisho Japan, it tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado as he goes through training to become a Demon Slayer after a demon murders his family and transforms his sister into a demon. Demon Slayer currently has two seasons and a movie out, but Netflix only offers season 1, which is 26 episodes long.
The Devilman Crybaby show signals Netflix’s foray into original anime, and so far, the results have been positively received. Based on Go Nagai’s manga Devilman, this tells the story of a human who finds himself possessed by a demon – but one who still has a human soul. There are currently 10 episodes available to stream.
The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.follows its eponymous protagonist, teenager Saiki Kusuo, who must navigate the challenges of high school while also wielding immense psychic powers that he wants to keep a secret. Netflix offers all 3 seasons of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, for a total of 50 episodes.
Edens Zero features exceptional worldbuilding; it’s set in the fictional Grand Shiki Cosmos full of humans, sentient machines, aliens, and more. The series follows friends Shiki, Rebecca, and Happy as they travel the cosmos searching for Mother, a legendary goddess. All 25 episodes of the anime are on Netflix, comprising its one and only season.
Erased‘s protagonist Satoru can travel back in time. He possesses the ability known as The Revival, which allows him to travel back to a moment before a life-threatening incident, a power he uses to prevent deaths. After his mother is murdered, Satoru’s ability sends him back to his elementary school days. He uses this opportunity to prevent the kidnapping that took the lives of three childhood friends. Part of the extensive Fate/stay night franchise, this series follows a splintered timeline from the original series, in which the Great Holy Grail Wars are waged on an unprecedented scale. There are currently 25 episodes available to stream.
A mouthwatering adventure, Food Wars follows protagonist Soma Yukihira during his intensive journey through culinary school. The animated series features plenty of high-octane culinary battles, and is streaming in part on Netflix. Food Wars has 5 seasons in total so far, but Netflix only has the first two.
Glitter Force has shades of Sailor Moon, with its tale of fairy stories and an evil emperor who can only be stopped by a team of magical girls. There are currently 40 episodes available to stream on Netflix.
Based on a video game of the same name, God Eater is set in a near post-apocalyptic future. Protagonist Lenka Utsugi joints the organization Fenrir, which uses divine weaponry to protect humanity against monsters called Aragami. God Eater is from Ufotable, the same studio behind Demon Slayer‘s 2 seasons and a movie. Netflix has all of season 1, which covers all of the show’s 13 episodes.
Widely considered one of the best anime series of the decade, Gurren Lagann is an action-packed mecha drama from Gainax, the studio behind Neon Genesis Evangelion. Set on an alternate universe Earth, where the Spiral King has forced mankind to live in subterranean cities, the story follows two teenagers who discover a mecha known as Lagann and use it to rise to the surface and fight against their evil ruler. There are currently 27 episodes available.
High Rise Invasion
Full of suspense, the Netflix original anime High Rise Invasion follows teenage protagonist Yuri as she searches for her brother in a world of masked killers and endless high-rise buildings. All 12 episodes are available on Netflix under season 1, and there could eventually be a season 2 as well.
Hunter x Hunter
One of Netflix’s longest anime collections is Hunter x Hunter, with all 6 seasons available to stream. The series tells the story of a boy named Gon Freecss who becomes a Hunter (a person licensed to hunt down treasure, monsters, and humans) in order to find his long-lost father. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, as the name implies, is a uniquely strange anime with a cult following. Chronicling the adventures of the Joestar family throughout different historical periods, the series is full of violent escapades and psychic powers. All five seasons of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are available to stream on Netflix.
The prestigious Hyakkaou Private Academy is home to the most privileged students in Japan in Kakegurui. However, the curriculum is far from the expected English and maths classes. The school’s entire hierarchy is built upon gambling: The more you bet, the better you are. Kill La Kill
Kill La Kill is one of the most high-octane anime series on Netflix. Ryuko Matoi arrives at the Honnouji Academy looking for her father’s killer. While there, she challenges the Elite Four, the quartet who rule the school thanks to their specially modified Goku Uniforms that give them superhuman powers. Everything about Kill La Kill is gloriously over-the-top. There are currently 24 episodes available to stream.
Komi Can’t Communicate
The Netflix original anime Komi Can’t Communicate is a rom-com slice of life about a high school girl who has so much social anxiety that she’s unable to speak with others. The series charts her journey to making 100 friends. The 12 episode season 1 is all that Netflix has so far, but more could be on the way.
As the name implies, Kuroko’s Basketball is about a competitive high school basketball league. Specifically, it follows protagonists Seijūrō Akashi, Shintarō Midorima, Ryōta Kise, Daiki Aomine, and Atsushi Murasakibara as they transition from middle school to high school ball. Netflix has all 3 seasons of the series available to stream, which encompasses 78 episodes.
Invading mecha titans attack a Japanese research center, forcing its students, pilots, and researchers to fight back with a little help from some mysterious artifacts and a samurai, recently awoken after over 400 years in slumber. There are currently 26 episodes of Kuromukuro available to stream.
Little Witch Academia
Part of the successful anime franchise, the main series of Little Witch Academia follows the trials and studies of a group of young witches. A girl with a non-magical background named Atsuko enrolls at Luna Nova Magical Academy with dreams of becoming a witch and following in the footsteps of her heroine, Shiny Chariot. There are currently 25 episodes available to stream on Netflix.
A group of young middle school students, including Madoka Kaname, make a deal with a cat-like creature named Kyubey: They’ll be granted any wish they desire in exchange for obtaining magical powers, which they will use to engage in battle with evil witches. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
Set in an alternate timeline of the ancient Old World, heavily inspired by Middle Eastern mythos, the story of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic follows a young Aladdin as he and his friend Alibaba go on a magical treasure hunt that will change their lives forever. There are currently 25 episodes available to stream.
Monthly Girls’ Nozai-kun
Another romance anime, Monthly Girls’ Nozai-kun began as a meta manga, in which protagonist Chiyo Sakura finds herself becoming the subject of her crush Umetarou Nozaki’s romance manga after the two hit it off in real life. The one and only 12 episode season of the series is available to stream on Netflix.
The iconic, violent Naruto anime was a gateway drug to many, and its manga remains the third best-selling in history. The eponymous protagonist is guided on his journey to becoming the strongest ninja in the world by the spirit demon living within him. There are currently 156 episodes available to stream. One Piece is one of the longest-running and most iconic animes of all time and is currently in its 20th season. It follows the adventures of Luffy and his pirate crew as they search for the legendary One Piece treasure and travel to countless strange islands across the ocean. One Punch Man

Ouran High School Host Club
Ouran High School Host Club centers around the eponymous club, an organization of male students that provides an escort service to girls at their school. Meant as a satire of the tropes found in classic shoujo manga, Ouran High School Host Club has a cross-dressing female protagonist at its center, Haruhi Fujioka. Netflix has the series’ one and only season available to stream, with 26 episodes in total.
Parasyte: The Maxim
Like many of the anime series on Netflix, Parasyte: The Maxim has an unusual science fiction/horror premise. It follows protagonist Shinichi Izumi, who is living in Tokyo during the invasion of a parasitic worm-like species that crawl into people’s brains to control their minds. Shinichi has his own parasite, but in his arm where he can work with rather than against it. Netflix offers the entirety of Parasyte: The Maxim‘s one and only season.
The anime that defined a generation was Pokémon. The series is a bona fide phenomenon, and that doesn’t even get into the many games, movies, and assorted paraphernalia surrounding it. The adventures of Ash, Pikachu, and other Pokémon anime regulars like Brock captured the imaginations of millions, although there are only a few series available to watch on Netflix. There are 3 seasons of Pokémon Sun and Moon available to stream, along with 4 parts of the Netflix original Pokémon Journeys and 2 parts of Pokémon Master Journeys.

Record Of Ragnarok
Another Netflix original anime, Record of Ragnarok imagines a world in which 13 human champions must do battle with the gods in order to earn humanity’s continued existence. Sailor Moon: Crystal And Sailor Moon: Eternal
Like Pokémon and Naruto, Sailor Moon is an iconic classic anime that many are familiar with. The premise is fairly simple: a group of schoolgirls with magical powers battle evil in various forms. Netflix doesn’t have the original Sailor Moon, but it does offer 3 seasons of Sailor Moon: Crystal and 1 season of Sailor Moon: Eternal.
The Seven Deadly Sins
In the Kingdom of Britannia, a group of knights of ill repute known as the Seven Deadly Sins were once defeated after supposedly trying to overthrow the Liones Kingdom. A decade later, the Princess of that kingdom goes on a quest to locate the Seven Deadly Sins in hopes of enlisting them to help regain control of her birthright. There are currently 5 seasons of The Seven Deadly Sins streaming on Netflix.
As the name suggests, Shaman King is about a young shaman, Yoh, on a quest to become the Shaman King, the one practitioner able to commune with the Great Spirit. He’s aided in his journey by the spirit of a samurai. There was an original version of the anime in 2001, but Netflix only has the 38 episodes so far of the 2021 reboot, with more on the way soon.
Sirius The Jaeger
Sirius the Jaeger is one of few original animes on Netflix that’s not based on a manga series. It has a classic premise, though: its protagonists are vampire hunters. It’s somewhat distinct, however, for being set specifically in the 1930s. All 12 episodes of Sirius The Jaeger are available to stream on Netflix.
Sword Art Online
Taking place over several virtual reality worlds, the Sword Art Online of the series’ title is an expansive MMORPG that allows its users to guide their virtual avatars through their own senses. When 10,000 players log in to the mainframe one day, they find they are unable to log out, and must beat the game if they wish to exit. Another hugely popular series in both Japan and America, there are 25 episodes available to stream.
Sword Gai: The Animation
The Netflix original anime show Sword Gai tells the story of protagonist Gai, who is cursed to become one with a legendary living weapon and must take on a powerful organization bent on destroying him. So far, there are 2 parts with 12 episodes each available to stream on Netflix.
Teasing Master Takagi-san
In contrast to some of Netflix’s more action-packed anime offerings, Teasing Master Takagi-san is a sweet, comedic story of two middle school classmates. After being teased relentlessly by Takagi, Nishikata attempts to give her some payback. There are 3 seasons of the show, but Netflix only offers season 2.
Toradora! is another heartwarming, school-based story like Komi Can’t Communicate. It follows high school students Ryuji, a gentle giant, and Taiga, a tiny spitfire, as they become friends and help each other navigate social life and relationships. Netflix offers all 25 episodes of Toradora!
Ultramarine Magmell, a Netflix original anime, is set in a world where a new continent has suddenly appeared. In this context, protagonist Inyou and his assistant Zero provide rescue aid to explorers navigating this dangerous new world. There are 13 episodes in total, all of which Netflix has available to stream.
Yuki Cross, a survivor of a vampire attack as a child, is tasked with keeping the peace between humans and vampires at Cross Academy in Vampire Knight. Humans study at the elite school during the day, while vampires attend at night. There are currently 26 episodes available on Netflix.
Last but not least among Netflix’s anime offerings is Violet Evergarden. Based on an award-winning light novel series, Violet Evergarden follows the eponymous heroine as she works as an Auto Memory Doll – a ghostwriter for those who cannot write themselves. Suffering from severe trauma after her time as a child soldier, Violet tries to find out who she really is. There are currently 13 episodes of the anime available on Netflix.
