James Gunn Agrees With Karen Gillan Over GOTG Holiday Special Comments

James Gunn agrees with Karen Gillan and once again calls The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special the best project he’s ever worked on.

Star Karen Gillan thinks The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special could be director/writer James Gunn’s best work, and Gunn agrees. Both Gunn and Gillan joined the MCU in the 2014 film, Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite Gunn leaving Marvel briefly and focusing on the DCEU’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the two will return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with Gunn as director and writer and Gillan as the cyborg Nebula. The rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast will also be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which Gunn announced will be the trilogy’s final installment.

Before GOTG Vol. 3 premieres, the Guardians will be returning for a different Marvel project. In 2020, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was announced as the MCU’s first TV holiday special, with Gunn attached as writer and director. Few plot details about the special have been released, but during a previous interview with Screen Rant, Gillan stated that although she had not seen the Marvel special yet, it was “totally possible” that it was Gunn’s best work.

Gunn took to Twitter to voice his support for Gillan’s comments. Not only did the Guardians of the Galaxy director agree with Gillan, but he also went on to share how much he looked forward to seeing new cuts from the project. Gunn praised the production’s editor Greg “One G” D’Auria, saying the cuts he saw this weekend were “another true pleasure.” Check out Gunn’s Tweet below:

Gunn has shared his excitement for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special before and teased the project as his best yet. With this new tweet, Gunn doubles down on that excitement, building even more anticipation for the project. Considering both Guardians of the Galaxy films and Gunn’s recent work with DCEU have been commercial and critical successes, it is safe to say that such anticipation for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is well-earned.

Still, even with Gunn or Gillan’s endorsements, there are several reasons not to miss the MCU TV special. Multiple Marvel characters will be introduced in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, one of which Gunn called one of the greatest MCU characters of all time. Additionally, the special will lead into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, revealing important information for the film. All considered, fans will have to wait until The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special releases on Disney+ to see if it lives up to Gunn’s hype.
