The MCU Secretly Teased Why Captain Marvel Recruits A Child In Phase 4

Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan will join forces with Captain Marvel in The Marvels, & a hidden detail in Kamala’s bracelets shows why Carol will recruit her.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 is seeing the introduction of new superheroes, among those Kamala Khan, who will make her debut in the TV series Ms. Marvel before joining her favorite hero, Captain Marvel, in The Marvels, and the MCU has already teased why Captain Marvel recruited such a young hero. Phase 4 is doing things differently by covering movies and TV shows, with the latter connecting to the movies and introducing a variety of new characters, and the next one in line is Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) in Ms. Marvel.

Kamala Khan is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book and she’s a teenage Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey, with shapeshifting abilities. Of course, the character has gone through big changes in the transition from the comic book pages to TV, and the biggest ones are the origins of her powers and how these are displayed, with these coming from a pair of bracelets. Ms. Marvel will explore the origins of Kamala’s superhero transformation and the struggles that come with such a big change in her life, and luckily for her, her future is already sealed as she will be back in The Marvels, sharing the screen with her favorite superhero, Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

Given Kamala’s confirmed appearance in The Marvels, there’s a lot of speculation on why and how she will join Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in this new adventure, and it’s rumored that Danvers will show up in Ms. Marvel to recruit the young hero. Now, although at this point it’s unknown how Danvers will learn about Kamala and her powers in order to recruit her, an easy-to-miss detail in the bracelets that give Kamala her powers could show why Danvers is taking her under her wing, as the bracelets could be linked to the Kree.

A Twitter user pointed out the similarities between the sun symbol on Kamala’s bracelets and the one used to show the rank of major in the Kree militia, and they look pretty much the same. The origins of the bracelets that give Kamala her powers in the MCU are still unknown, and as Kamala’s origin story has been changed completely from that in the comics (meaning there’s no Inhuman gene in her), it would make sense that the bracelets have some alien origin and are linked to the Kree, as that would also link Kamala to Carol Danvers, making their alliance a lot more likely. Captain Marvel explained that Carol Danvers was made into a human/Kree hybrid by this race, and they even used her as a weapon, so she would definitely recognize a Kree artifact – especially one used by the Kree military – that grants its users shapeshifting abilities, and even more so if it’s being used by a young girl on Earth.

If Kamala Khan’s bracelets are an invention of the Kree, this could lead to a new conflict with this race in the MCU’s near future, and they could even return in The Marvels. Carol Danvers could see herself reflected in Kamala and her connection to the Kree through the bracelets, thus taking her under her wing and joining forces with her and Rambeau to face whatever type of threat the MCU has in store for them.
