Potions Guide (Researching, Brewing, & Recipes)

The Serpent Rogue includes a variety of potions that can be brewed with varying effects depending on the combination of ingredients used.

A few different types of potions can be brewed in The Serpent Rogue using two or three ingredients at the Laboratory in the Abandoned House or at a Portable Lab. Both researching and brewing can be done from a Portable Lab, but the item weighs a lot and may not be practical to carry around all the time. A Portable Lab can be crafted at the Smeltery using two Logs, one Textile, and one Metal Scrap. Whether players are using the Abandoned House or a Portable Lab, ingredients will need to be researched before potions can be brewed.

Players will come across a variety of ingredients while adventuring in The Serpent Rogue, but the effect will start out as unknown until enough research is completed. To research an item, it will need to be brought to a Lab. Researching will consume one resource, and each type has a set number of times that it needs to be investigated. Once the effect is discovered, the ingredient can be combined with others to create different potions.

Researching ingredients is only half of being able to brew potions. Players will also need to figure out what ingredients to combine to get the desired effect for each potion. There are a few different types of potions, including ones that affect status conditions and others that can summon creatures. Potion recipes will be unlocked after the first time they’re brewed. Ingredients will be consumed regardless of whether or not a potion was brewed successfully, but a warning will come up if the failed potion is attempted again.

Potion recipes can be discovered by combining a base ingredient with a modifier and a trait or condition ingredient. The base ingredient determines if the potion will have a positive or negative effect. The potency will be set by the modifier, and what the potion does depends on the trait or condition ingredient added. Players can experiment with different combinations, but it’s important to note that if incompatible ingredients are combined, the resources will be lost and no potion will be brewed.

Any ingredient that affects a condition, such as Poison, Wound, or Soulless, can also be combined with a Berry or Tea Leaves and a modifier, to create a potion that increases or decreases the condition. These potions follow the same formula, and the potency will depend on what modifier is used. Aside from experimenting with the core ingredients, players can create different types of summoning and transformation potions.

The Serpent Rogue Potions Guide Researching, Brewing, & Recipes Creature Components

Potions can be used to summon creatures or transform a target depending on which ingredients are used. The creature components can be combined with Berries to create a summoning potion, or Mandragore to brew a transformation potion. All of the transformation potions require a Mandragore. Small amounts of Mandragore appear in the Wasteland and it has red leaves. It may take a while to complete the research for Mandragore and collect enough to brew the desired potions, but players can speed up the process by resting at the Camp and waiting for the zone to reset when a Corruption Storm passes. Potions are a big part of crafting in The Serpent Rogue, and researching and brewing often will help players progress quicker.
