Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is finally out, and just like any game, it comes with a host of plot points and elements to spoil for those who haven’t played it. Spoilers are rarely a welcome sight, but in certain situations, they can help clarify things that would otherwise be shrouded in confusion. There’s a lot to digest after players run through the factory evading Mommy Long Legs, and it may be hard to fully realize everything that happened in the midst of all the chaos.
Poppy Playtime Ch.2 picks up where the first leaves off, with the player looking at Poppy’s display case after freeing her. It isn’t long before they come face-to-face with the main monster, Mommy Long Legs, who poses a big problem for them throughout the game. After clearing the Game Station’s challenges and getting the code for the train, the player will get on it to leave Playtime Co., only for their plan to literally get derailed at the last minute.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, titled Fly in a Web, revealed some shocking details about the lore of the game and the many monsters that inhabit Playtime Co. The full implications of them might not be revealed until later entries in the series, but they still have plenty to unpack on their own. The entire game, down to its code, is being picked apart by theorists at this very moment, so it’s possible that more news will come to light as time goes on. Until it does, speculation will abound, especially about the ending of Poppy Playtime Ch. 2, where many of these major events and spoilers occurred.
Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 Exposed Poppy As A Major Antagonist
One of the biggest spoilers for Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 – and the entire series – is that Poppy really is the villain that she’s been theorized to be. She acted sweet and kind at the beginning of the game but betrayed the player at the very end. While they’re riding the train out of the factory, she switches the tracks to send them to an area called “Playcare,” which causes them to crash. Her only given reason is that the player is “too perfect to lose,” a cryptic message that does little to reveal her motivations. Ch. 2 hasn’t confirmed that she is the overarching antagonist, but it still appears that Poppy may be the game’s real villains.
There is a detail in Poppy’s speech at the end of the game that indicates she’s not wholly evil, however. She mentions the “terrible things” that have occurred at Playtime Co., and that “whatever I need you to do, you’re capable.” Her tone comes off as menacing, but her language implies that she has good intentions. It’s possible that she’s working against the real main antagonist and trying to prevent more atrocities from being committed, such as the experiments that created her and the other monster toys. The fact that she gets cut off in the middle of her speech – as if she was abducted by a greater villain in the same manner as she was by Mommy Long Legs early in the game – supports this.
Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 Reveals That Huggy Wuggy Is Not Experiment 1006
Another major Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 spoiler comes at Mommy Long Legs’ demise. After Mommy Long Legs in Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 gets caught in an industrial shredder and subsequently perishes, an eerie hand appears out of the shadows to take away her remains. This is its only physical appearance in the game, and the rest of the monster that it belongs to is not revealed. It has long, spindly fingers and exposed arm bones, looking somewhat like an unfinished version of Mommy’s own arm. These similarities mean that it could belong to Daddy Long Legs, a long-theorized male counterpart to Mommy who was confirmed to be canon by a poster in the factory. The hand appears half-finished, however, which means that he may be using the parts of Mommy that he takes away to add to his own body.
Although the hand only shows itself to the player once, more details on it can be found in one of Poppy Playtime Ch.2 ‘s VHS tapes. From the black tape found after killing Mommy Long Legs, players learn that this is none other than Experiment 1006, which was featured on another tape in the first chapter. He is also referred to as “The Prototype,” which is mentioned in the writing in the factory’s ventilation system in Ch. 1. Before this, 1006 was commonly believed to be Huggy Wuggy, but he is revealed to be Experiment 1170 instead. In the first chapter’s tape, 1006 escaped containment and went on a rampage, and in the second, it’s stated that he is highly intelligent but much less compliant than Huggy Wuggy. With so many teasers in both games, it looks like the series is setting him up to be a major character.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 Spoiler Confirms A Long-Running Theory
Ever since Chapter 1 released, it has been theorized that human beings were used for the experiments that created the monstrous toys of Poppy Playtime. In Chapter 2, that theory was confirmed. A note concerning Mommy Long Legs, found in the Water Treatment station, reveals that she is Experiment 1222, and that her subject was one “Marie Payne.” Two more notes in one of the Game Station challenges reveal that they were used to test children for aptitude to become future experiments. This means that Playtime Co. truly was using people in order to create their monsters, and it’s perhaps one of the biggest spoilers in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. It was heavily implied but never explicitly confirmed until now, and the fact that the company used children makes their toys even more horrifying than they already were.
Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 also offers some details on how these experiments were conducted. Another note talks about an experiment performed on a rat, that involved feeding it some form of edible solution and preserving its body in mixture of poppy flowers and a preservative gel. Mommy Long Legs and Huggy Wuggy are experiments with numbers in the 1100-1200s, and the rat is in the 800s, so this appears to be a very early experiment from before they were used to make the monster toys. The author of the note states that he believes that poppies are the key to “life altering qualities” despite the experiment’s failure, and wonders if something larger than a rat will yield success, which suggests that similar methods were used in later tests. Since Mommy Long Legs, Huggy Wuggy, and 1006 are the end result of their experiments, it appears that they were correct. Hopefully, more details of this will come in future entries, but for now, these are the biggest spoilers from Poppy Playtime Chapter 2.
