Golden Kamuy Manga Wins the Grans Prize at Japanese Cartoonist Association Award

The winning work of the 51st Japan Cartoonists Association Award was announced today May 20th. Satoru Noda’s “Golden Kamui” was selected as the grand prize in the comic category, and Satoru Noda’s “Hunger who lives politely” was selected as the grand prize in the Cartoon category.

The reason for receiving the award for “Golden Kamuy” is that “Ainu culture, which was rarely depicted in the manga until now, was taken into the world of work sincerely as entertainment and attracted widespread interest.”

Furthermore, The reason for receiving the award for “A hungry demon who lives politely” was that “even though he is a hungry demon, some pictures and gestures are cute”. Moreover, the Manga Kingdom Tottori Award was awarded to Taizan 5 “Takopi’s Original Sin”, and the Manga Kingdom Tosa Award was awarded to Seigo Sakai “The Crossing World is Interesting”.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award praised Saito, Takao Saito, and the production of graphic novels for their achievements. The Japan Cartoonists Association Award was established in 1972 to recognize excellent works to promote the spread of manga culture and improve and develop the manga world.

In the 51st meeting, Machiko Satonaka served as the selection committee chair, and Shoji Igo, Koji Tsujishita, Kamakiri Uno, Moto Hagio, Hiroshi Odagiri, Mitsuru Miura, Ikuya Komori, and Jyoji Morikawa were on the selection committee.
