Mandalorian Season 3 Will See Bryce Dallas Howard Return as Director

Bryce Dallas Howard will return to direct an episode of The Mandalorian season 3 after previously directing episodes for the first two seasons.

Bryce Dallas Howard will return to direct an episode The Mandalorian season 3 after directing episodes in its first two seasons and The Book of Boba Fett. Howard is mostly known for her acting roles in 50/50RocketmanPete’s Dragon, and the Jurassic World trilogy. She broke into directing through short films, following in the footsteps of her father, Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard.

The Mandalorian, set in the Star Wars universe, follows bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) who goes on the run to protect Grogu, one of the last individuals to have a strong connection with the Force. The Mandalorian season 3 will follow the pair after they reunited in The Book of Boba Fett. At the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Grogu briefly left the Mandalorian to study under Luke Skywalker, but The Book of Boba Fett saw Grogu choose Din over his Jedi training. The Mandalorian season 3 is currently in post-production, with a release window for February 2023.

According to THR, Howard is confirmed to be directing one episode of the new season. Along with Howard, Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Karga on the series, is also returning to direct an episode of the new season after directing an episode in the second season as well. Series creator and showrunner Jon Favreau is rumored to have written a majority of the episodes.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Pedro Pascal

Filming of The Mandalorian season 3 took place from October 2021 to March 2022, a short turnaround for a series where most of the work is done in post-production due to the heavy amount of computer effects required. Luckily, filming wasn’t delayed due to Pascal’s involvement in The Last of Us television show, with his masked character played by stunt performers when the actor is otherwise busy with different commitments. Other details for The Mandalorian season 3 have been kept under wraps such as who else will direct episodes, or how many episodes the new season will have.

The Mandalorian remains one of the most exciting developments to happen to Star Wars in a long time and though The Book of Boba Fett saw the connection shows fumble their stories, the high production value and creative passion in The Mandolarian should right those missteps. Howard’s episodes in particular have been praised as great entries in the Star Wars show and, with other shows like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew in the pipeline, Star Wars has firmly established itself on the small screen. That’s all thanks to the engaging story and broad appeal of The Mandalorian and directors like Howard who lead the critically acclaimed show. In the end, Howard will continue the strong work she’s produced for The Mandalorian, and the show itself will hopefully continue to entertain fans for years to come.
