The Man From Toronto could be a new franchise for Netflix, and here is what is known about Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson’s possible sequel.
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Man From Toronto!
Here is everything we know about The Man From Toronto 2, including the potential sequel’s status, cast, story, and release date. While Netflix has moved into the territory of creating its own original movies in recent years, the streaming service has also found great success in acquiring titles that other studios no longer want. The Man From Toronto originated at Sony Pictures as a new potential action/comedy movie franchise, but COVID-19 delays eventually led the studio to sell the film to Netflix.
The Man From Toronto stars Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson as an unlikely pairing of a regular man known for his screw-ups and one of the world’s deadliest assassins. The story revolves around Kevin Hart’s Teddy Jackson after he becomes mistaken for Harrelson’s The Man From Toronto, also known as Randy. They become wrapped up in a mission that involves an assassination attempt on the Venezuelan president and a betrayal by Randy’s handler, played by Ellen Barkin.
Thanks to the leading star power of Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, there has long been a chance for The Man From Toronto to launch a franchise. With the movie releasing on Netflix in June 2022, the possibility of Randy and Teddy working together again on another adventure is in the cards. So what is the status of The Man From Toronto 2? This is everything that is known about the sequel.
Will The Man From Toronto 2 Happen?
There has yet to be any announcement about either Sony or Netflix making a The Man From Toronto sequel. Even though the project originated from Sony, it would seem that Netflix would be the landing spot for a potential second film. The Man From Toronto was met with mostly negative reviews, which would seemingly suggest that a sequel will be tougher to get made. However, the action/comedy also quickly climbed Netflix’s Top 10 charts to be the top movie on the service—like in no small part due to Hart’s impressive drawing power. If enough subscribers watch and enjoy the film, Netflix might be more inclined to announce The Man From Toronto 2.
The Man From Toronto 2 Cast: Every Character Who Can Return
Looking ahead to the potential cast for The Man From Toronto 2, it would be expected that a handful of characters will return. It is impossible to imagine another The Man From Toronto movie happening without Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson being involved. Hart’s Teddy Jackson could be left out since he is not the title character, but his relationship with Randy should keep him involved—not to mention the sequel would likely take a hit without Hart’s involvement, unless the film was able to secure another major name. As a result, Teddy’s wife Lori (Jasmine Mathews) and Randy’s new girlfriend Anne (The Flight Attendant‘s Kaley Cuoco) would also be likely to return.
Does The Man From Toronto Set Up A Sequel?
The ending of The Man From Toronto does not directly set up a sequel. It is for this reason that figuring out what The Man From Toronto 2‘s story will be is a bit more difficult. Just as the first film brought the two men together in an unlikely way, it would make sense for a similarly bizarre sequence of events to be the foundation for another adventure. It could be as simple as Teddy and Randy trying to get a replacement for Randy’s car Debora and encountering the Handler’s replacement, or having something from Randy’s past come back to haunt him.
The Man From Toronto 2 Release Date Prediction
As far as when The Man From Toronto 2‘s release date could be, it is at least a few years away. There are no reports that a sequel to Kevin Hart’s movie is already in development, which means a script still needs to be written before filming can begin. Even if the film is fast-tracked at Netflix, it is unlikely The Man From Toronto 2 is released before the summer of 2024. The more realistic release date for the sequel is sometime in 2025.
