Sharon Carter Gets New Comics-Accurate Costume In Official MCU Art

A Marvel Studios banner promoting next week’s San Diego Comic-Con sees Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter sport a comic-accurate costume at last.

Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter gets a new comics-accurate costume in official Marvel Cinematic Universe art promoting San Diego Comic-Con. VanCamp’s character was first introduced as Steve Rogers’ next-door neighbor in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Following the attack on Nick Fury, the “nurse” is revealed to be Sharon Carter, great-niece of Peggy Carter and a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent tasked with monitoring Captain America. In Captain America: Civil War, she went on to ally herself with Steve, Sam Wilson, and Bucky Barnes as they ignore the Sokovia Accords and evade the authorities.

Sharon, Sam, and Bucky all fell victim to the Blip in Avengers: Infinity War. After being brought back in Avengers: Endgame, the latter pair were pardoned for their crimes in Civil War. However, when audiences saw Sharon in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the former CIA agent was still a fugitive. Therefore, Sam promises to help her clear her name if she aids them in their quest to stop the Flag-Smashers. In the end, Sharon is revealed to the audience as the Power Broker, the criminal responsible for the spread of the Super Soldier Serum. The show’s post-credits scene sees Sharon unwittingly welcomed back by the government and teases her Phase 4 future as a double agent, a future that may look familiar to fans of the comics.

Reddit user u/ElizabethSwannSimp recently shared a photo of a SDCC banner featuring Sam Wilson’s Captain America alongside a comics-accurate Sharon Carter. To the right of a poster for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, VanCamp is shown wearing an all-white jumpsuit reminiscent of her look as Agent 13 in the pages of Marvel Comics. Check it out below:

Assuming Sebastian Stan’s Bucky is to the left of Anthony Mackie’s Sam, the art could aim to promote Captain America 4, which is being written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, and is directed by Julius Onah. Captain America 4 is presumably the next MCU project VanCamp will appear in. However, it remains to be seen if she’ll be a friend or foe of Sam’s Captain America. When The Falcon and the Winter Soldier revealed her character had become the Power Broker, fans weren’t necessarily happy with the implication that she’d become the main villain in Captain America 4. Rumors suggest her role has been changed. Moving forward, Sharon could be the Power Broker as a CIA cover, which would explain why she avoided being pardoned as it allowed her to keep an eye on both the government and the underworld.

In the comics, Sharon remains loyal to Nick Fury, who has been largely absent in the MCU’s Phase 4. With Samuel L. Jackson confirmed to appear in The Marvels and Secret Invasion, much could be revealed about Sharon’s loyalties ahead of her prospective appearance in Captain America 4. Agent 13’s comics-accurate costume seems to indicate her duplicity is in service of the greater good. While filming, release date, and cast details surrounding Captain America 4 are being kept under wraps, it’s likely fans will find out more about Sam, Bucky, and Sharon’s future at SDCC next week.
