Why Sara Is Being Accused Of Cultural Appropriation

Why Bravo viewers are upset with The Real Housewives of Dubai’s Sara Al Madani for dressing up in an Afro wig on a night out with the girls.

Viewers of The Real Housewives of Dubai are not pleased with Sara Al Madani’s choice of outfits as viewers called her out for cultural appropriation. Sara hasn’t had the easiest season as she has been accused of being too preachy by some of her castmates. Now Sara is ready to explain herself.

Viewers have learned from the season that Sara is unlike most conventional housewives. Sara was born in the United Arab Emirates and was raised with a mix of modern and traditional values. Early on, fans learned Sara started her first business when she was only 15 years old and has now become a motivational speaker. Sara is now 33 and the CEO of HalaHi, and a partner at Cahero Holding. While Sara has a lot to be proud of, fans were recently disappointed in her choices of attire.

RHODubai viewers recently wanted Lesa Milan to throw a dance hall-themed party for the ladies. While all the women wanted to be having a great time, Sara stunned viewers when she walked in with an Afro wig that she kept telling cameras was a very normal hairstyle within the Arab community. Sara, who is on RHODubai with Nina Ali, also shared a photo on her Twitter as she tried to explain her reasoning behind the hairdo. However, not all fans took offense to the look, with one fan writing, “Girl, us, Jamaicans, are not pressed.”

Sara shared with Page Six that she was worried about wearing the look because she had a feeling some people may not accept it. But instead of acknowledging how the hair could have been offensive, Sara doubled down, telling the outlet, “the Afro exists in my culture.” While some of her followers understood her message, others felt Sara was just acting out another cliché. Sara seemed unphased with most of the remarks but may think twice before wearing certain attire.

As the only cast member from the UAE, Sara is making sure to tell her truth on the RHODubai. After giving some unwarranted advice, she has already had a few heated matches with cast member Caroline Brooks. While Sara often comes across as peaceful, she can sure hold her own in an argument. Caroline has a way of breaking down Sara’s zen and riling her up. Needless to say, Sara has a lot on her plate when it comes to unwanted drama and will no doubt be trying to figure out how to get back to her calm lifestyle.

The Real Housewives of Dubai airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
