Samuel L. Jackson announces that reshoots have wrapped on Secret Invasion, the Disney+ MCU series in which he is playing Nick Fury yet again.
Samuel L. Jackson has announced that reshoots are wrapped on his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series Secret Invasion. The Academy Award-nominated actor has been a part of the MCU since the very beginning, appearing as the S.H.I.E.L.D. leader and Avengers founder Nick Fury in the original 2008 Iron Man. He has gone on to reprise the role in more than a dozen other MCU projects, including a voice-only role in the animated series What If…? and a major appearance in 2019’s Captain Marvel under layers of de-aging technology. He is often spotted working with former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, the character introduced in 2012’s Avengers, played by How I Met Your Mother‘s Cobie Smulders.
Both Smulders and Jackson are set to re-team in Secret Invasion, which is currently expected to premiere in early 2023. Part of the upcoming Phase 5 of the MCU, the six-episode series will focus on the former S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel attempting to track down an alien menace after they discover that shape-shifting Skrull have been impersonating various humans across the globe in a clandestine takeover. The cast of the series includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo, and Dermot Mulroney, with appearances by MCU veterans Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Don Cheadle as War Machine, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos.
On his official Instagram page, Jackson just shared a picture of himself wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Nick Fury’s face. In his caption, in addition to announcing that he was wearing “pachy-pants” with elephants all over them, he revealed that it is wrap day on Secret Invasion. While Nick Fury “chills,” he will be heading to Broadway to play Doaker Charles in the August Wilson play The Piano Lesson. Check out the post below:
Considering the fact that Jackson is committed to a major role away from the set of Secret Invasion, it is safe to say that the bulk of filming is well and truly done. This spells out good news for fans who are eager to see Marvel’s take on the body snatcher trope. The series has now moved fully into the post-production phase, with the additional footage joining the early footage that has already had the opportunity to be edited.
Now that Secret Invasion has progressed to the next step, it is likely that Marvel will begin the slow drip of promotion for the series. There are quite a few MCU projects coming between now and the release of the series, including She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, so it likely will be some time before an official trailer is released. However, now that everything is in the can, they will have the ability to start sharing production stills and other tidbits from the series while fans wait.
