8 Hermione Memes That Sum Up Her Role In Every Harry Potter Movie

Warner Brothers has announced that they would like to do more projects with the world of Harry Potter moving forward, despite the limited success of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series. What those projects would be, however, is anybody’s guess. One possibility could be a series set within the Ministry, perhaps during Hermione’s term as Minister for Magic. Harry and Ron’s Auror careers could easily be built into that structure, and fans could see what the battle-hardened bookworm was like decades later.

If something like that were to be explored, it would be important to look at how Hermione was presented in the films, as they were not always comparable to the books. In each Harry Potter film, Hermione had a distinctly different part to play, and those roles can be summed up through memes that show off every side of her character.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

In the first Harry Potter movie, Hermione is most notable for her intelligence and desire to succeed. This meme successfully captures that energy and the frustration of those around her through this scene from Friends.

Snape mocked her, Ron mocked her, and yet her intelligence ended up saving the day repeatedly. While she suffered for it, she kept her pride and curiosity intact, which was vital to winning the war. This movie cemented the idea of Hermione as the ultimate know-it-all.

Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets

Hermione had a fairly minimal role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, because she was a cat for over a month and then petrified for most of the time after that. Each major moment in the film was just Ron and Harry, from being blocked from Platform 9 3/4 to meeting Aragog to entering the Chamber. She showed off her intelligence by brewing the Polyjuice Potion and figuring out that the monster was a basilisk, but both were primarily done offscreen.

Given her limited role, this meme sums up her experience best. She came for her second year of Hogwarts but missed the entire spring term. While most students would be pleased they wouldn’t have to complete exams they had missed the content of, Hermione always learned the material in advance, making exams the only part of the school year she might have enjoyed.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban

On the surface, the introduction of time travel to the Harry Potter universe was simply a way to explain how an over-ambitious student would take extra classes. However, it brought up some serious moral questions in the long run, and they tend to revolve around Hermione.

While Order of the Phoenix eliminates all the time turners, there were still plenty of terrible things Hermione could have undone with access to time travel. Since she had a smaller role in the third movie beyond introducing the finale’s deus ex machina, it makes it feel like Hermione made an active choice not to help more people when she just used the device for classes and rescuing Buckbeak (and Sirius).

Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire

In the book version of Goblet of Fire, Hermione was devoted to the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare and helping Harry prepare for his tasks. However, most of those scenes were cut from the movie in favor of teenage drama, specifically focusing on Ron being mad at Harry for being chosen and Ron being mad at Hermione for having other romantic prospects.

This meme, based on a scene from The Mindy Project, does a good job of summarizing Hermione’s budding crush on Ron. He was repeatedly causing problems, so while she wanted him in her life, his attitude was grating. While this meme perfectly summarizes the couple’s early dynamic, it does illustrate how many of Hermione’s subplots were cut out to highlight Harry and Ron.

Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix

Book fans often see Hermione as the most critical part of Harry winning the war, and Order of the Phoenix is the first time that movie fans really saw how true that was. Hermione was consistently thinking again, trying to put the pieces together of how Umbridge connected to Voldemort and how to defeat them both.

Furthermore, while this installment proved that Harry should become a teacher, Hermione was actually the one who came up with Dumbledore’s Army. She’s also the one who got rid of Umbridge. As the meme shows, Hermione was consistently saving Harry from danger and his own worst impulses, which was best demonstrated here.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince

Continuing the theme of Hermione’s romantic drama from Goblet of Fire, some of Hermione’s plot in Half-Blood Prince revolved around Ron’s relationship with Lavender. While she was concerned about Voldemort, she was also deeply hurt by the way that Ron was treating her, especially because she felt he should know how she felt about him.

Hermione’s concerns might have been somewhat frivolous, but if everyone discarded personal feelings in times of conflict, there would be nothing worth fighting for. As the meme shows, Hermione was the death of Ron and Lavender’s relationship in this movie, which brought her and Ron one step closer to finally being together.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1

When it came to planning, Hermione was at her best in Deathly Hallows: Part 1. She Obliviated her parents’ memories, was prepared for an attack at the wedding, kept Harry safe for months, and generally solved every problem that they faced. Harry, on the other hand, had few significant contributions to the plot, forcing the meme to reference a discovery from the second part.

For the first six movies, fans generally saw people calling Hermione smart, rather than her proving it with her actions. This film blew everything else out of the water, really letting her intellect and quick thinking shine. There were relationship dramas, but for the majority of the movie, Hermione was proving herself to be an unusually powerful witch.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was the culmination of years of planning, and yet the climax was somewhat boring. Because of wand lore that wasn’t well explained, Harry was able to kill Voldemort with the one spell he was consistently good at using. Put that in contrast to figuring out the secrets of the Deathly Hallows and the Horcruxes, the use of a wide array of spells, and generally planning for every situation, and it’s clear Harry’s contributions were significantly less than Hermione’s.

As the meme shows, Hermione put everything she had into stopping Voldemort for years, from propaganda and battle strategies to scavenger hunts and combat skills. Harry did willingly die, but everything else felt pretty coincidental, despite the Wizarding World seeing him as the true hero. Fans can acknowledge the importance of his contributions while also being upset that Hermione wasn’t appreciated more.
